a US company that produces electrical products and aircraft engines, and owns ↑NBC and ↑Universal. It is the largest company in the world and was formed in 1892 when Thomas Edison's company, Edison General Electric, joined with Thomson-Houston Electric. It is the only one of the 12 original companies on the Dow-Jones Industrial Average that still remains. It broadcast the first dramatic play on television in 1928, and Ronald Reagan presented The General Electric Theater on television in the 1950s.
